A Word About Life and Things

Dreams

We all have dreams of things we want to do or things we want to accomplish in our life. When Abraham was 75 years old God told him that He would make him the father of many nations. His wife, Sarah, was 65 years old and barren. After 13 years, Sarah gave Haggar, her servant, to Abraham for a wife so that they could have a son (Ishmael). But this was not the promised child. It was 25 years before the promised child was born (Isaac).

Too often we settle for Ishmael when Isaac is the promised one. We settle for less than what God wants to give us. There are more than 5,000 promises in the Bible. These are promises that God wants to give us. Yet when things get hard or it’s been a long time we become weary and we give up on our hopes and dreams and we settle for less. We settle for what we have now. We say to ourselves that that’s good enough.

A lot of our dreams are what God has put in us. Our dreams are like a prophecy of what God wants to do for us.  We will wait on the Lord to bring what He said to fruition in our lives. Our dreams will come true. We will overcome the obstacles the enemy puts in front of us. We will put our trust in God. We will wait on Him to give us our dreams.

      New King James Version
Genesis 15:4 And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir."
5 Then He brought him outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

      New King James Version
Genesis 16:1 ¶ Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar.
2 So Sarai said to Abram, "See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her." And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.
3 Then Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan.
4 ¶ So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes.

      New King James Version
Genesis 17:18 And Abraham said to God, "Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!"
19 Then God said: "No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.
