A Word About Life and Things

My Faith

There was lady who grew up in a small town in Mississippi. She was raised very poor in a difunctional family and suffered abuse. It looked like she would become a statistic and never amount to much. One morning, at the age of five, when the milk man was dropping off the milk at their small house, he looked the little girl in the eye, and said “young lady you will become Miss America.” Up to that point no one had ever said what she would become. All she had ever heard was, disfunction, defeat, mediocrity. When she heard that word from the milk man a seed was planted in her heart. Every Tuesday the milk man would say the same thing over many years “you’re going to become Miss America.” In the natural, she had no reason to even entertain those thoughts. She did not have connections, resources, ability, no one to help her with her dreams. If she could do it on her own, it would not take faith. God will put things inside of us that is beyond our abilities and talents and beyond our reach. At the age of eleven this girl was in a head-on accident, she was thrown from the car and broke her leg in 32 places. She had 200 stitches on her face. So much for becoming Miss America. For five years she was crippled and had to use a wheel chair. Most people would have given up, but not this young lady. That dream was deep down in her heart. At 19 she entered her local pageant, and won first place. She went on to win the Miss Mississippi contest. In 1980 Cheryl Prewitt Salem became Miss America. Today, she is serving the Lord.

The Lord gives us dreams, ideas, desires. He puts things into our hearts and souls. When we take that dream, idea, or desire and latch onto it and keep it in the fore front of our minds, God will see that it will happen. Too often we give up, because of the things that come against us. The things that happen that we decide it is not worth the trouble. It is too easy to give up. We need to hold onto those things that the Lord has put in our hearts. That is what faith is. Holding onto God to keep His promises to us. Many things will come to distract us, to get us to give up, or to go on to other things and forget about that dream. But faith does not give up. We hold onto God’s promises to us, and make sure that God keeps his promises to us. We keep a steady faith on God’s words to us. He will never lie or forget us. Our faith is in Him.

      New King James Version
Matthew 9:20 And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.
21 For she said to herself, "If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well."
22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, "Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour.

      New King James Version
Matthew 14:34 Ά When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick,
36 and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.
