A Word About Life and Things

A missionary to Africa was sailing home after serving 20 years on the mission field. On that same ship, President Theodore Rosevelt was also sailing home after spending three weeks hunting animals. As the ship neared the dock there was a great shouting for the President. There were flags waving, people shouting and everyone was waving and waiting for the President to disembark from the ship. When the time came for the missionary to disembark there was no one waiting for him and no sound of his name. While the missionary was standing on the curb waiting for a taxi, he was asking God why no one was waiting for him or shouting his name. He felt God say in his spirit, “son you are not home yet.”

There is an old saying ‘home is where the heart is.’ This earth is not our home, we are just passing through. Many people are storing up treasures in this world. They are trying to make their life more comfortable for their time of retirement. They are not thinking about eternity, they are thinking about the now. Our life on this earth is very short, but eternity is forever.

Some people believe that God is the One who chooses who gets into heaven. That is not true, we decide if we are going to heaven or not. God has already provided a way to go to heaven, and that is through His Son Jesus. God offered His Son as a sacrifice for our salvation, so that we can make heaven our home. Eternity is a long time, not to be in heaven. We all have a choice to make. God said he has set before us life and death, blessing and cursing, then He said to choose life. The choice to make is ours and not God’s. We decide to go to heaven or not. Choose this day whom you will serve. Where is your home?
