A Word About Life and Things

Manna

When the Israelites were in the desert for 40 years God fed them with manna. The word Manna means “what is it.” It was a small round substance on the ground that could be eaten as is or made into flour and pressed for oil. The manna could not be stored up. It lasted for only 24 hours, and on the Sabbath, it lasted for 48 hours. When they came into the promised land the manna ceased because it was no longer needed.

We may not be in a desert today, but God is still providing our substance. We may have been in a job for 20 years, but God is the one that provided that job in the first place. When that job goes away we wonder what God is doing. There is nothing that lasts forever. Even during times of trials and tribulations, our God still provides for us. Things change, then God changes the provisions that we need. He is the One that takes care of us and provides what we need.

      New King James Version
Psalms 78:23 Yet He had commanded the clouds above, And opened the doors of heaven,
24 Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven.
25 Men ate angels' food; He sent them food to the full.

      New King James Version
Exodus 16:14 And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground.

      New King James Version
Joshua 5:11 And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day.
12 Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.
